What are the contents of a coir pot kit?

  • Coir Pots
  • Coir Coins
  • Variety of Seeds
  • Nutrients (Grow, Flora & Thrive)

How to use this kit?

There are five simple steps involved to grow plants using this kit. Expanding the coir coins, filling the pots with coco peat, seed germination, hardening the sapling, & transplanting into a bigger pot (if required).

1. Expanding the coir coins

Add 100-150 ml of water to each coir coin and allow it to expand.

2. Filling the pots with coco peat

Take the expanded coco peat and fill the coir pots

3. Seed germination

a. Place the suggested number of seeds in each pot inside the cocopeat at a depth of 1 cm.

b. Place the pots in a warm and dark place to speed up the  germination process.

3. Keep the coco peat moist by spraying 5 - 10 ml of water once or twice a day (depending upon the weather in your area). The seeds will start to germinate in 3 to 7 days time.

4. Hardening

Once the seeds have germinated, start exposing them to morning and evening sun for couple of hours a day. And increase sure the exposure gradually.

Provide 10 - 15 ml of (regular or nutrient) water to the saplings everyday. For next 1 week, keep increasing the sun exposure gradually till the saplings develop 6-8 leaves.

Once the sapling develops 6-8 leaves it is ready to be transplanted.

NOTE: Prepare a 500 ml nutrient solution by adding 1 ml each of Grow, Flora and Thrive to 500 ml of water. Use this solution, once on alternate days to water your plants. Rest of the times use plain water.

5. Transplanting

If you are growing leafy vegetables like coriander, lettuces, herbs like basil, parsley etc there is need for transferring these pots into a bigger one. But if you are growing vegetables like cucumbers, bell peppers, tomatoes, etc then you should transfer then into bigger pots. (can be done entirely with the pot)
